2023 election: Musician Burna Boy lashes out at Nigerians who criticize him for his silence

Burna Boy, the award-winning Afrobeats singer, has hit back at Nigerians who have criticized him for his silence on election issues in Nigeria.

According to Kemi Filani, after receiving criticism from Nigerians for his silence on electoral topics, Burna Boy has now broken his quiet and aired his viewpoint.

Burna Boy used his Instagram story to urge the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) to run the election transparently and to oppose any attempt to alter the results against the backdrop of election problems across Nigeria.

Burna Boy went on to say that the electoral body should ensure that Nigerians are free to choose their favorite presidential candidate without outside influence.

Unfortunately, his post did not put him back in the good graces of Nigerians, who accused him of only speaking out against societal evils when it suited him.

Many people have commented on how the artist usually sings about societal evils in the country, but has never been vocal about them.

In response, Burna Boy reiterated that he would not participate in the election process since he does not want validation from Nigerians.

He denied receiving money, a house, or property from politicians or governors, as well as claims that he was appointed to a political role.

Burna Boy has stated that all of his good efforts for his country have come from his heart, pocket, time, and emotions.

“I’ve never made money from any Nigerian administration and I never got any property, land or money from any governor. I’ve never been elected to a public office and never planned to be. All of the good I do for my nation comes from the bottom of my heart, picket lines, time, and emotions. It’s not for social media approval, and it’s certainly not because I owe anyone anything. I neither say nor vote. Make sure everyone getsat”.

Burna Boy has stated that he will not vote.
