Aliero defeats Gov. Bagudu in the Senate contest.

Sen. Adamu Aliero of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been declared the victor of the Kebbi Central Senatorial District election held on February 25 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Prof. Abbas Yusuf-Bazata, the INEC Returning Officer who announced the results on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi, claimed Aliero defeated Gov. Abubakar Bagudu for the seat.

He stated that Aliero received 126,588 votes, defeating Bagudu, the incumbent governor of Kebbi and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, who received 92,389 votes.

Abubakar Bello-Tilli of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) received 1,874 votes, while Umar Rufa’i of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) received 992 votes, according to the Returning Officer.

“Having completed the conditions of the law, Adamu Muhammad Mainasara Aliero of the PDP is hereby pronounced the victor and returned elected as Senator for Kebbi Central Senatorial District,” he added.
Aliero, a two-term governor of the state, is the zone’s current Senator.

He moved to the PDP after failing to obtain the APC’s endorsement to run for the seat again in the primary.

Aliero, a former clergyman, expressed gratitude to God and his constituents for providing him with another opportunity to serve.

He declared it a success for all and urged people to remain peaceful and to respect legitimate authorities. (NAN)
