Wednesday, the Federal High Court in Lagos granted bail to Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin, a Nollywood actress who was charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with spraying and stepping on fresh Naira notes.
Omoseyin was indicted by the EFCC for allegedly tampering with new naira banknotes at a party in the state.
The commission charged her with two counts for spraying and walking on the cash.
The 31-year-old defendant was said to have tampered with N100,000 in fresh notes by spraying and treading on them in the Lekki neighborhood of Lagos.
She pleaded not guilty to the accusation, though.
In a judgement issued on Wednesday, Justice Aneke granted the defendant and one surety bail in the same amount.
The court ruled that the surety must be a public official and possess real estate within its jurisdiction.
Additionally, the surety must provide three years of tax clearance.
In addition, the court ordered the defendant to deposit her passport with the court registrar.
The judge postponed the trial until April 3.
The defendant is accused of committing the offense on January 28 at the monarch event centre in Lekki, according to the accusation.
Mr. S.I. Sulaiman, the prosecutor, said that the defendant, while dancing at an event, sprayed and trampled on newly designed naira notes.
The offense is contrary to section 21 (1) of the Central Bank Act of 2007.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the defendant was detained after a viral video showed her spraying and treading on new currency at a party surfaced.
