The first lady of Nigeria, Aisha Buhari, advised Nigerians to continue using the old #500 and #1000 bills even though they are no longer legal cash in a post that has since been deleted.
The statement reads, “Due to the current and unpleasant situation happening in Nigeria, In line with Mr. president.
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has been ordered to Exclusively reissue and circulation the old N200, N500, and N1000 banknotes, and this is likely to circulate as legal tender for 70 days up until May 1, 2023, following a private meeting with him on February 20, 2023.
Thus, the general population should keep using the old notes.
“Media professionals are urged to PLEASING share this valuable information with the public,”
Nevertheless, the central bank of Nigeria refuted the assertion, calling the report untrue and admonishing citizens to disregard any news concerning the Naira that doesn’t come from them.
