Ghanaian actress, Joselyn Dumas has revealed that many men are scared to settle down with her because she is a single mother.
During a interview, she shared her conversation with a male friend named Anthony, who expressed reluctance to marry a woman who already has a child.
According to her, Anthony’s said he can never raise a child who is not in his bloodline.
Dumas also talked about the dilemma faced by women who become pregnant against their partner’s wishes and choose to keep the child.
She emphasized the importance of single mothers finding happiness and fulfillment despite societal stigmas and rejection.
She said: “Do you know why we don’t ‘go out and marry?’ I spoke to a friend of mine, Anthony, and he said look, I’ll never be with a born one. He was sitting right there and told me. And I said to myself, this is the reason why a lot of us single mothers are single with our children.
“Because now his reason was “why would I come and look after or raise somebody else’s child. That’s not my bloodline. He doesn’t have any trace of my DNA in him. Why am I going to now help someone’s bloodline grow? What about mine?” Do you understand? And then I asked him, “what about adoption?” He said it’s different, but no it’s not. I mean if you ask me, it’s not, because I have a child.
“And people don’t even care the reason why you have a child. Sometimes you meet a guy you’re dating and get pregnant, are you going to have an abortion because you’re not married? No. He doesn’t want the child so are you going to have an abortion because of that? No. You can raise the child on your own. It takes a village, even if you can’t or you don’t have a job, it takes a village. So it’s a sacrifice you’ve also made as a woman.
“But the man sitting there, even society, the man’s family is going to think no. And that is why. It’s not because we single mothers want to be single.”
