Naira scarcity: Lady pays shoemaker with garri and a plate of rice after her slippers are repaired.

Helen Temitope, a Nigerian woman, described how, due to the country’s currency shortage, she was forced to pay a shoemaker with food.

The young lady claimed that after she called the cobbler to repair her slippers, he told her he hadn’t eaten in days and demanded that she pay him with any money she had, no matter how old it was.
Helen decided to compensate the man with a plate of rice and raw garri because she felt sorry for him and lacked cash.

The young woman took to Twitter and posted a photo of the shoemaker eating the food in her compound.

“Until today, I haven’t felt this bad about this new note scarcity,” she wrote. I hired a shoemaker to fix my slippers. He told me to bring any money I have because he doesn’t have any money to eat today and has been trekking for more than 3 hours. I felt terrible for him.”

“I wouldn’t want to expose his face, and I only posted to let people know that some of these people don’t have any way of getting help… We should be considerate. Everyone is affected by it. There would be no problem if banks gave money. “Right now, I don’t have any money.”
